What is an orangery?

Historically an orangery or sunroom was a place for the cultivation of oranges and lemons and other exotic plants. Today orangeries retain a unique, elegant character that sets them apart from conservatories, providing a contemporary or traditional addition to any home.

There is a general consensus of agreement that the difference between an orangery and a conservatory is that the latter has a greater area of glass. Orangeries can often form a more integral part of the house, giving the appearance of an extension, and they will usually have a flat-roofed perimeter with a central lantern-style glazed roof.

However with an endless range of styles, materials and configurations to choose from, many designs can often be a fusion of the two.

Add space to a home

Rather than being a detached building, an orangery is a modern way to extend a home or living space.

Well planned and designed, a bespoke orangery will considerably enhance the family home and have a positive effect on the value of any property.

Affordable luxury

Previously orangeries were thought of as only being available to the more wealthy end of the market, however Altus Services are proud to offer an affordable range of designs to make your orangery dream a reality!

Altus can produce orangeries in any style you choose. Our design team have the expertise and resources to provide a full and comprehensive service, from initial design to manufacture.

Insulation value

With ever-increasing heating costs, customers concerned about the insulation value of a conservatory, or with a north-facing plot receiving little direct sunlight, may wish to consider an orangery.

The brick or stone of an orangery will provide even better insulation during the colder months, whilst the large glazed areas still provide a light and airy space.
